Pink Boots Society and Fremont Brewing Offer Apprentice Scholarship

Pink Boots Society and Fremont Brewing Co. have teamed up for an absolutely amazing partnership. Working in tandem with Pink Boots Society, Fremont Brewing is offering one lucky lady an apprenticeship with their facility. The apprenticeship will run February 1st through March 8th, 2015 and the apprenticeship will focus on cellar work, the brew house, beer production, an overview of sales and marketing as well as a number of other tasks an experienced brewery like Fremont possess knowledge of.

Along with the experience gained working in the brewery, the apprentice will be given a $2500 stipend to assist in travel and housing. The first half will be awarded to facilitate travel to Seattle, WA and the second half will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

Founder/Owner of Fremont Brewing Co. had some lovely words to say about the program in a press release on September 4th:

“Craft brewing is about making the best beer everyday, and that means having the best team brewing the beer. We can’t really fulfill that promise until we have the best applicants across all gender lines, and this scholarship is designed to open the door to brewing a little wider to the largest segment of our population, women. Quality beer is the standard and quality applicants for brewing is the goal,”

“We also want to offer a friendly challenge to other breweries to pick up the banner and encourage more female applicants for brewing jobs. The Pink Boots Society is leading the call and we have heard the future calling. Have you?”

The “Final Exam” so to speak will take place on International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (March 8th) where the apprentice will lead the IWCBD brew at Fremont Brewing.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants must be Pink Boots Society members (whose membership is open to any woman who earns some income in the beer industry — most of the members of Bitch Beer have joined), are employed in the beer industry and have experience in brewing beer. Applications will be accepted September 5th through the 30th and the scholarship winner will be contacted in early November then announced publicly on November 15th.

Good luck to all the brewers applying for the apprenticeship!
