The 2014 Texas Craft Brewers Festival is just around the corner–September 27 to be exact. And, this year, it’s larger than ever with an impressive 57 Texas-bred breweries joining the lineup. While VIP tickets are already sold out, general admission and designated driver tickets are still available for purchase. In anticipation for this year’s festival, we’re kicking off a series of profiles featuring some of the newest breweries to join the festival’s ranks. Yesterday, we told you all about Huff Brewing based in Bellville, TX. Today, we chat with Josh Bass, Founder of Brenham-based Brazos Valley Brewing Company.
Interview with Brazos Valley Brewing
Josh Bass: We strive to brew the best beer we can, we love hop bombs, approachable sessions beers, as well as high gravity specialties beers. We offer a variety of beer so there’s something for every palate.
Jeremy and Nelson started out homebrewing together about 10 years ago, a few years back they got me into it as well and the idea of taking it pro started to creep up. We decided to jump head first into it and spent a few years studying the business and brewing beers to perfect our recipes. 2013 was a year of construction and we finally got licensed to sell December 18. Since then it’s been a wild ride and it keeps getting better. We recently added 3 more 20bbl fermentation tanks and are looking forward to the flexibility the increased capacity provides.
BB: Where can people currently find your beers, and where do you hope to have them available in the future?
JB: Currently our beers are available in draft and 22oz bombers, in the Houston, College Station, and Waco markets. Brazos Valley Stout, The Cause IPA, and The Effect Black IPA are available in bombers. Brazos Valley Golden ale and Silt Brown ale will be packaged in 16oz cans in the coming months.
BB: How does it feel to be participating in the Texas Craft Brewers Festival this year?
JB: It feels awesome, since we missed it last year as we were still in the build out phase, it’s like we finally made it to the party!
BB: What should people expect if they come to visit your booth at the Texas Craft Brewers Festival?
JB: Great beer and a good time, we are bringing our Silt Brown ale and The Effect Black IPA!
BB: What other breweries’ offerings are you hoping to try at the festival?
JB: We are looking forward to catching up with the guys from Huff Brewing, they are only a few minutes down the highway from us and are in the middle of an expansion. Also looking forward to seeing Ranger Creek, a couple of their employees are from Brenham, and we always enjoy sharing a pint with them on the patio when they come into town.
BB: Anything else we should know about Brazos Valley Brewing Company?
JB: We’re a small five man operation putting out beers we love to drink, and would love for you all to come visit the Brewery. We are located at 201 W. 1st in Brenham, and the beer garden is open every Friday and Saturday from 6-10p. Check out our Facebook page for the latest updates.
