12 Brews of Christmas – Day 8: St Bernardus Christmas Ale

st.-bernardus-ChristmasThere are four days until Christmas Eve, and if anyone is as bad about putting off shopping for the holidays as I am, you may be starting to sweat a little bit. Luckily, today’s offering in our 12 Brews of Christmas series comes in at a hefty 10.0% ABV, so it will have you well on your way to relaxing again (although after one or two, you won’t get anymore shopping done today than you did yesterday).

St. Bernardus Christmas Ale is a seasonal offering from St Bernadus, a well-known brewery located on the boarder of Belgium and France that has been cultivating and using it’s own strain of yeast since 1946. They also have their own hop fields and the most appealing bed and breakfast the world has ever known.

The brewery’s Christmas Ale is a dark quad-style beer with spicy-sweet complexities – think cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg with figs and brown sugar. It’s a big beer (10.0% is nothing to eff around with) so it’ll leave you toasty and warm. It is difficult to go on without drooling.

St. Bernadus Christmas Ale is available in bottles and on draft throughout the winter season. If nothing else, it’ll leave you saying “ho ho wow!”
