Getting Funky in Fort Collins

IMG_4291So, in our report from the Colorado brew-venture we’ve made of GABF this year, we were headin’ on out of Boulder and making the trek up to Fort Collins, with roughly 80 bottles and cans in tow. Let us tell you, Fort Collins did not disappoint us on our journey.

We arrived Monday morning and immediately searched out a liquor store for some cool bombers to bring home to Texas. Then, we wasted no time heading over to Odell Brewing Company for a lovely and lengthy afternoon of drinks. That evening, we explored Old Town Fort Collins, stopping at CooperSmith Pub and Brewery, Tap N Handle for a Yeti flight that had us believing, and The Mayor of Old Town where we indulged in yet more flights of beer. Fun note, for the beer festival, the Mayor dedicated all 101 taps to Colorado breweries. Talk about a local tap takeover.

Tuesday morning, we were up and on our way out again bright and early, stopping at New Belgium Brewing for their legendary tour, followed by a walk-through at Funkwerks where we had a great beer-centric chat with assistant brewer Natalie Lesko – who is a badass. We spent the evening grabbing beers at Equinox Brewing, and at the hidden-away Forge Publick House where Holly totally dominated at Pac-Man Battle Royale.

Next stop is Denver, folks, so follow our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vine accounts as we cover the festival and all the debauchery that goes along with it. Also, check out a couple of our favorite moments from the past two days in Fort Collins and our photo gallery!

Favorite beer: Odell Wooden Cow Milk Stout

Best meal: The night-cap calzone from D.P. Dough – the original calzone company!

Funniest moment: Drinking a stranger’s homebrew on the street behind a bush. Thanks, Dirk, for the Girl Scout Cookie Stout!

Favorite beer: Odell Fernet Aged Porter

Best meal: The charbroiled tofu with house-made chimichurri from 415

Funniest moment: Our waiter at CooperSmith’s returning Caroline’s room key with a sheepish “I think this is for a hotel room” when she mistook it for her credit card.

Favorite beer: New Belgium Odd Couple

Best meal: The crispy polenta with tomatillo sauce also from 415

Funniest moment: The strange 1:30 AM wall bang-off with our odd neighbors at the hotel
