On July 22nd, Alamo Drafthouse had the grand opening for their Lakeline location and their brand spankin’ new Glass Half Full Taproom. With a variety of beer cocktails, beer mixes, and beers on tap, Glass Half Full is certain to please whatever you might be craving. We tasted a variety of drinks offered and some of our favorites include:
Full Scotch-Irish Breakfast: “Bonded rye, Stout, Maple, Lemon Curd, Whole Egg, Mole Bitters (which were sadly absent when we were there), Nutmeg.” This is basically Christmas in a cocktail glass. I thought it was really delicious even without the mole bitters which I’m sure just throw the tastiness over the edge.
Elderflower Snake Bite: “Pearl-Snap Pils & Ace Pear Cider with a hint of St. Germain.” We all really enjoyed this drink. I’m pretty sure everyone at our table had this concoction at least twice. It’s sweet but not overpowering and was just really great to sip on.
Hopalong Cassidy: “Old Tom Gin, Cointreau, Fresh Grapefruit, India Pale Ale Syrup.” They were passing around samples of this for the grand opening and we all really enjoyed it. It’s similar to a classic cocktail and I imagine that it will become a favorite of many Glass Half Full patrons.
I honestly had no idea you could even make an India Pale Ale syrup but it made a damn good cocktail. Many of the other Glass Half Full specialty cocktails include some sort of beer ingredient like a vanilla porter syrup or a reduction made from Avery’s White Rascal.
Glass Half Full also has 32 taps that they plan on filling with mostly local and regional beers. So expect the usual suspects like Thirsty Planet (whose Buckethead IPA is used in the Suero beer mix), Real Ale, and Austin Beerworks.
All-in-all, we had a fantastic time in the Glass Half Full taproom. The bar has a ton of seating and is very bright and open. The theater’s lobby is also really lovely and has a Planet of the Apes statue (so awesome) next to the ticketing booth. If this place had been around when I lived in Cedar Park, I would probably have walked to it an almost shameful amount of times. Oh, who are we kidding? I have no shame.
