The ladies of Bitch Beer clearly love our beer, but the vast majority of us have one thing in our hearts that comes before brew – our pets! Check our personal social media outlets if you don’t believe me. Since five of the six fur balls in our life were rescued from shelters, we are always excited to hear about events that help raise money for pups and kitties in similar situations.
Austin Pets Alive! is a nonprofit organization that is fiercely committed to ensuring that all healthy, adoptable animals are safe from euthanization. Their vigilance to the cause has helped name Austin the largest no-kill city in the nation. To keep uniting pets with their future owners, APA! hosts numerous events throughout the year in order to raise funds. As luck would have it, to keep cool during the dog days of summer, many of these events revolve around beer!
On July 29th starting at 5:00 PM, pet-loving patrons can enjoy a Beer Cocktail Night at Blackstar Co-op. The Blackstar crew will be introducing their new beer cocktail menu which will include a Waterloo Mojito, a High Esteem Michelada, and a new take on Shandies. There will also be APA-inspired appetizers and adoptable dogs and volunteers to rub elbows (and paws) with. Even better, the event is open to the public and a portion of the night will benefit APA! Just make sure you RSVP on the event’s Facebook page so the rest of your pack knows where you’ll be.
August 3rd marks APA’s 1st Annual Beers, Bands + Buddies benefit concert. It will take place at 6:00 PM at Hills Cafe on South Congress Avenue, and features musical stylings by Jeremiah Houston and James Pardo. There will also be a silent auction showcasing a custom art piece by renowned local artist Bob “Daddy-O” Wade. There will be beer, of course, as well as food and an open door policy for your furry companions. Tickets are $10 and are available online now or at the door on the day of the event.
At 6:00 PM on August 17th, APA will kick off its 3rd Annual Pubs 4 Pups pub crawl sponsored by Independence Brewing at Little Woodrow’s on west 6th street. The crawl will continue to Dogwood and Kung Fu for the following three hours. The $30 tickets are available until August 3rd and include an event t-shirt, pint glass, and four beer tickets. Additional shirts are also available for $15. If you aren’t game for the entire crawl, Little Woodrow’s is offering $3 Greyhounds and Salty Dogs with a $5 donation to APA!
Any of these events would be a great way to give to an organization saving the lives of loving animals across the city, as well as an awesome opportunity to throw back a couple of cold ones in the Austin summer heat.
