Dog- and Beer-Friendly Establishments in Austin, Texas

IMG_3767After a rather rainy start to Spring, it looks like things might finally be warming up and drying off (for today, at least). With the warmer weather (and a lack of mud puddles), it’s time to take man’s trusted companion out around town. Sometimes you want to enjoy a cold one with your best bro (that dog has seen you do some nasty stuff most likely and has never once told on you). We are always excited to see dogs at some of our favorite local bars so we figured we could put together a starter list of dog-friendly bars.

Baker St. Pub & Grill (3003 South Lamar)

Located minutes from Zilker Park and the Green Belt, Baker St. Pub opens its doors to dog owners hoping to grab some food or hit up their Happy Hour after a day in the park with their beloved friend. Owners can enjoy their food and drinks on the outdoor patio while their pup enjoys some water and some treats to refuel.

Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden (79 Rainey St.)

With a large outdoor area and a mini-dog park, it is not uncommon to see a dog or three or ten at Banger’s. They also have Mutt Mondays where you receive 50% off all pints and free dog training when you bring your dog. That 50% will go a long way, too. Banger’s has a serious amount of taps with some good choices.

The Buzz Mill (1505 Town Creek Dr.)

New on the Austin bar scene and in an area that needs it, Buzz Mill merges beer, coffee, mixed drinks, BBQ, and a dog-friendly atmosphere all into one awesome place. The outdoor area has plenty of seating along with the Blue Ox BBQ trailer (which makes some delicious breakfast on the Sunday flapjack brunch).

Draught House Pub & Grill (4112 Medical Pkwy)

With over 50 beers on tap, Draught House also boasts a dog friendly outdoor seating area. It is also walking distance to a small community park. So you can take your dog for a run and then head over to Draught House to quench your thirst with a delicious pint.

Craft Pride (61 Rainey St.)

A recent addition to the booming Rainey St., Craft Pride sports a large and beautiful outdoor seating area complete with the Bacon Bus (if your pup would like a bacon snack). They also only serve beer and wine made in Texas which delivers that local pride we all know and love.

Red’s Porch (3508 S. Lamar)

It is not uncommon to see people hanging out with their beloved pal while drinking a delicious cold one at Red’s Porch. With a hefty amount of Texas taps, bottles, and cans (along with other delicious non-Texas beers), Red’s Porch is a great place to come for Happy Hour or lunch to enjoy some sun with your pooch.

This is obviously just a short list to get you started. If there’s a bar you think really needs to be on this list, let me know in the comments and I will add it!

  3. I was told craft pride did not allow dogs, even seeing someone told to leave when they had one, has this changed or was this a one time phenomena?
