Molecules in Hops Could Be Beneficial in Treating Illnesses


I love nothing more than being told that beer is good for me.

A recent study by researchers at the University of Washington (which you can read in full detail here) discovered that humulones (molecules in hops) which give beer its bitterness could be beneficial if consumed in moderation in treating diabetes, some cancers, and could even aid in weight loss.

Converting the humulones into crystals and using X-ray crystallography, the researchers isolated the acids and molecules that arise from the brewing process. This will help to pave the way to creating new pharmaceuticals to treat the diseases listed above.

So take that, wine! Beer can be just as healthy for you if drunk in moderation!
