What’s more fun than drinking beer? Drinking beer in a gorilla suit. Duh.
This Saturday Thirsty Planet Brewing Company is hosting a registration for the 2013 Austin Gorilla Run, and to celebrate this exciting event, the brewery is releasing the year’s first batch of Silverback Pale Ale. The beer is made specifically for the Austin Gorilla Run, and a portion of all the Silverback sales will go to the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. Additionally, those who register for the run at Thirsty Planet will receive 10 percent off their registration fee.
The Austin Gorilla Run isn’t your ordinary 5K – it’s more like a stampede of outrageous human-sized gorillas. All runners receive a gorilla suit that they are encouraged to dress up or decorate in any way, and before the race begins, the winners of the costume contest for the most creative individual and gorilla group will be announced. In the past, gorillas have shown up in dresses, bikinis and even banana suits. After all the gorilla runners have crossed the finished line, everyone is invited to hang around, drink some beer, listen to some live music and celebrate another great run.
Saturday’s Gorilla Run registration will coincide with Thirsty Planet’s weekly brewery tour, so even if you don’t plan on registering for the run, it’s still a great day to visit the brewery, try their awesome beers and get an inside look at the brewery. Reserve your tickets here.
